• Module Title: Numerical methods for PDEs - Finite Elements
• ECTS credits: 6

• Topics: Elliptic problems: finite and spectral element methods; parabolic
  problems (time and space integration); hyperbolic problems: elements of the
  finite volume methods; resolution of linear systems systems; domain
  decomposition methods.
• Objectives: The numerical approximation of PDEs is an important branch of
  numerical analysis, in which more aspects of the problem have to be taken into
  account: physical aspects allow to better understand the behaviour of the
  solution. Secondly, the variational formulation of the problem and the use of
  variational techniques give a priori estimates of numerical solutions. Moreover,
  the regularity of the mathematical solutions can suggest the methodology to use
  and which precision cand be obtained. Algorithmic aspects has also to be
  considered for each numerical methods.
